The vision of HSA involves the development of healthy communities by sustaining soil health. This underlying precept revolves around the notion that you are what you eat.
The health aspects include:
The well being of animals and humans.
Viable and profitable communities, particularly in rural regions.
Environmental health by maintenance of resources such as water, vegetation and soils.
Achieving this vision requires wide community involvement. Urban communities are largely the market for the agricultural products but they are also the source of organic wastes needed to improve soils. Industry is similarly a major source of materials for remediating of soils, as well as a user of natural resources from the land. The HSA initiative addresses urban as well as rural community issues.
Achieving the vision also requires the delivery of comprehensive and cost effective soil health services. This includes the evaluation of needs, the development of advice, the provision of remedial services and the ongoing monitoring of performance.
The objectives represent discrete goals in achieving the HSA vision. These include:
Implement soil health management measures that improve the economic and social wellbeing of communities.
Improve industry and community accessibility to information on measures to improve soil health.
Secure funds for the R&D, innovation and commercialisation of business services in the restoration and sustainability of healthy soils.
Provide the resources for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop and commercialise new innovations in soil health and environmental services.
